The first day of the media deprivation project didn’t start off as well as I thought it would have. When I woke up on Saturday morning, I immediately went to check my phone to see all my notifications and then went on to check my Facebook. Quickly after I got done checking Facebook, I realized how much of an idiot I was and quickly got back on the grind of the project. I continued my day like any other by getting dressed and going to the gym, where they play music and have TV’s displayed throughout. You can call it cheating, but it’s one of the many loopholes of the project. Having music playing while working out was a relief from the drive over to the gym, where all I could do was just sit and think about my life and how I was going to get through the weekend without messing anything else up. I went and met up with some of my friends who had originally planned on going to the river, but due to the weather we never got around to it. I had to use my phone to make some phone calls so the rest of the group would know that we weren’t going, and that we were just going to sit by the pool all day instead. I told my work earlier that week that I would stop by and help volunteer to wash cars as a fundraiser for March of Dimes. I got my friend to drive me to work so we could listen to music without him yelling at me about having the radio off, and to my luck they were playing music at the car wash! My day went to continue on at the pool until late at night and then I headed over to a couple of parties to finish off my day 1 of this project. I realized that my life doesn’t rely on social media as much as I thought it did. The only reason I use social media is to keep in touch with friends and be able to make plans to go out. I went the entire day without logging on to Facebook, or watching TV and I didn’t die, now who would have thought of that? I think this project is a great opportunity for people to go out and be more social. I don’t really ever watch TV, or spend hours on the computer because I’m either at work or out with friends. I’m always on the go and having the media around me just makes it easier to be more portable, and keep everything organized.

You know, I can work out for free at Our Lady of the Lake University, so I should head over there for my workouts during this project.
ReplyDeleteHaving to work out in complete silence is kinda disconcerting.... Especially if the only soundtrack you have is made up of construction sound effects! Urban sprawl be damned!
